The cosmos is all encompassing. According to Merrium-Webster it is “an orderly harmonious systematic universe” or “a complex orderly self-inclusive system.” By titling his new show We Are The Cosmos, Thomas Campbell appears to be reaching for an expression of universal connectivity. This theme manifests in the show through an exhibition of a diversity of mediums and scale that interact to create a complex tapestry. Paintings, ceramics, bronze works, collages, sewn pieces, and drawings are linked together through Cambell’s unmistakable style and color palette.
After the recent Northern California wildfires and resulting hazardous air quality caused the original opening date to shift, We Are The Cosmos was rescheduled to run October 19 to November 18, 2017, with an opening reception on Thursday, October 19, from 7:00 to 9:00PM at Chandran Gallery. With legendary ex-professional skateboarder Tommy Guerrero playing music at the opening, this event is guaranteed to be an engaging experience.
An online auction, unassociated with yet chronologically overlapping We Are The Cosmos, wlll also feature Campbell’s work this week. Aimed at benefiting hurricane recovery efforts in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands the auction will run October 15 through 21, 2017. Aptly named Surf Craft, this online fundraising event features paintings on surfboards by Campbell and a collection of other artists. The auction is a collaboration between Chandron Gallery, Mana Contemporary in Jersey City (where the surfboards will be exhibited), Juxtapose Magazine, Waves For Water, and Changing Tides Foundation.
