The word Rastovich, when preceded by the name Dave, loosely translates to “man who surfs with dolphins.” Wait, maybe I don’t have that quite right. It’s the word Wajung that needs to be decoded. According to Nathan Oldfield’s vimeo post it “is the name given to the bottlenose dolphin by the Arakwal People, the traditional custodians of this region of Bundjalung Country on the Far North Coast of New South Wales, Australia.” He goes on to report, “There are many stories of Wajung and Saltwater People communicating and interacting with one another, including cooperative fishing practices, sharing resources together and participating in mutual play in the sea.” If that seems hard to believe, click play and bare witness as Rastovich connects with a few of these phenomenal beings in their natural habitat and shares a few rides.
