In partnership with Surfrider Foundation, Save The Waves is running their 5th global wave conference in Santa Cruz, California next week. According to their website the event will bring “together the best international minds from the surfing, conservation and innovation communities to tackle the world’s most challenging ocean issues.” The main areas of focus are Climate Change And Innovation, The Land To Sea Connection, and Protected Areas + Surf. Specific topics being covered range from Marine Plastic Pollution, to Water Quality, to Protected Surfing Areas, to Climate And Sustainability.
The event offers keynotes, presentations, films, and workshops by innovators from within the surf industry. The list of speakers includes world renowned professional surfers Shaun Thompson and Greg Long, seasoned activists Chad Nelson (CEO of Surfrider Foundation) and Kyle Thiermann (Surfing For Change), along with business leaders like Mark Price (CEO Firewire Surfboards). Chris Malloy, Greg MacGillivray, Rodrigo Farias Moreno, and Sachi Cunningham will be talking about their work as filmmakers and documentarians.
Patagonia Ambassador, Liz Clark will also be giving a keynote presentation. Clark is known for sailing solo around the world on a small vessel dubbed Swell. She recently wrote a book about her life and adventures “with the intention to inspire others to follow their hearts, protect our planet, and live out their dreams.” You can learn more about the book and other projects she’s involved in at her website, Swell Voyage.
