I’ve personally only SUP’d a handful of times, but in order to support cancer research I’m gearing up to enter a race. On Saturday January 14, 2017 101 Surf Sports in San Rafael, CA will be hosting a benefit race aimed at raising funds for cancer research.
On their website it states, “This is a charity race with all proceeds going to charity. This year we support the work of UCSF Dr. Babis Andreadis. Dr. Andreadis is leading the fight against leukemia through his research which focuses on identifying genetic predictors of treatment response and using them to develop new, more effective therapies. Your support will play an important role in advancing his efforts!”
Realistically, I’ll have little to no time to train, will have to borrow a board and paddle, and have no clue what to wear to stave off cold water temps, wind, sweat? and fog – but I don’t care. I’ll happily be gunning for last place knowing the real battle is a fight against cancer.
