It Ain’t Pretty, a documentary directed by Deyla Soul, spotlights women’s surf history, the current women’s big wave movement, and challenges to the way women are portrayed by mainstream surf media.

While the film hones in on the tough conditions in and around the San Francisco Bay Area and the women who surf there, it also incorporates footage of a diverse array of females from all walks of life getting involved in the sport. As inspiring as it is informative, It Ain’t Pretty aims to evoke respect and inclusivity while casting an alternate light on an often overlooked and integral part of surf culture.

Some of the surfers spotlighted in the film include Bianca Valenti, Paige Alms, and Keala Kennelly – key players in the advancement of women’s professional big wave surfing.
