What do you get when you mix art by Nathaniel Russell, film by Tin Ojeda, music by Hailu Mergia, and mash it together at The Chapel? – an interesting surf related musical and visual event to say the least. And that’s exactly what’s on offer this coming weekend in San Francisco.
Tin Ojeda, who will be providing “surf projections” for the event, is a surf film maker known for putting together compelling and obscure 16mm movies. Some of his titles include Free Jazz Vein, Daughter, and Expencive Porno Movie. Nathaniel Russell is a visual artist who employs a variety of mediums, ranging from poster art, to murals, to conceptual pieces like fake books. Hailu Mergia hails from Ethiopia. He is a keyboardist, accordionist, and band leader with a culturally influenced, flowy, and captivating style.

This all-ages show presented by Mollusk Surf Shop and (((folkYEAH!))) is scheduled for Sunday February 25, 2018 at The Chapel. According to their website, “The Chapel is a new live music venue, restaurant, and neighborhood bar located in the heart of the Mission District. The Chapel occupies an historic 1914 building that was originally built as a mortuary…The beautiful chapel with its 40-foot high arched ceiling has been converted to a music room with mezzanine, while the rest of the building has been remodeled to hold a restaurant, neighborhood bar, and an outdoor dining patio.” Click here for an interactive map to the venue.
