Live music by ALO, raffles, silent auction, and good vibes are guaranteed to be in full effect at the 2017 “Life Is A Wave” benefit put on by Save The Waves this coming weekend in San Francisco. As part of the the event they’ll be honoring Sachi Cunningham as Athlete of the Year, Mark Price and Firewire Surfboards as Business of the Year, and Anna Cummins and Dr. Marcus Eriksen, founders of 5 Gyres Institute, as Environmentalists of the Year.
Save The Waves is a nonprofit organization out “to protect and preserve the coastal environment with a focus on the surf zone.” The organization currently has programs running in Australia, Ireland, Portugal, Brazil, Chile, Peru, California, and Baja. They’ve been instrumental in efforts to preserve irreplaceable surf spots like Punta De Los Lobos, and Trestles, cleaned up beaches in Santa Cruz, and worked towards the creation of a state park in San Miguel, Baja. The video below by Kyle Thiermann, focusing on San Miguel, offers a detailed example of the work Save The Waves is doing.
The celebration and benefit are set to run from 5:00 PM to midnight at Mezzanine SF on Saturday May 20, 2017. For a more detailed schedule and to buy tickets to the event go to this link. To learn more about Save The Waves click here.
