“Never give up, chase your dreams, and always be yourself” – Ntando Msibi

The best advice I’ve heard in a long time comes from a 19-year-old South African surfer who beat incredible odds to make it off the streets and into a healthy surf based lifestyle. The above video put out by Ruwac Productions, and directed by Simon Cotter, documents Ntando Msibi’s transition from homelessness to sponsored athlete.

The short film hones in on Ntando’s journey and the work of Surfers Not Street Children, “A project that empowers ex street children as they move towards adulthood.”

According to their website Surfers Not Street Children, engages a “Team of former street children, who are now top surfers, …not only committed to their own continued transformation and journey towards independence but are ambassadors and role models for other kids still on the streets as well as an advocacy voice on the phenomenon of street children.”

Like Ntando’s story, his surfing is inspirational. Simply put, he shreds and we hope to see more of him in the future.
