We all know by now that Hurricane Irma caused extreme havoc and destruction in parts of Florida and the Caribbean. Lives were lost, infrastructure torn apart, and access to vital resources disrupted. While some Caribbean islands like Antigua and Barbuda faced virtual destruction, all of those in Irma’s path were hit hard. Getting support to people living in the wake of this catastrophic event is urgent.
Waves For Water is offering one way to help. According to their website they will “focus on certain specific underserved local communities, that are so often overlooked.” With this in mind the organization launched an emergency relief initiative designed to provide clean drinking water for those recovering in the Virgin Islands and the French Caribbean. Their strategy involves three stages: providing immediate access to clean water, building large scale filtration system depots, and analyzing data to make the project sustainable.
While individual contributions and small-scale fundraising operations might seem minor, it’s the collective effect we create together that makes a difference. So far the Hurricane Irma Relief Initiative has raised $45,350 towards a goal of $100,000. Follow the links below to see how you can get involved.
